The Toronto Maple Leafs

March 20 2008
Well hear we are on the outside looking in AGAIN. The leafs have been playing pretty good hockey lately but as the old saying goes, “to little to late”. I guess what frustrates the life out of me is why can’t they play like this earlier in the season instead of frittering away points, then waking up when there back is to the wall and trying to scrabble to get in. They still have a mathematical shot at getting there but that is pretty remote. It is not just that they have to catch one team, no they have to catch four or five teams. So even if a team like philly folds ( which I believe they will) you still have to catch the Sabers and Bruins too. They also play against each other too so someone is going to get points there. I just think they are going to run out of games no matter how good they play. At least they are making it interesting.

Poor Carlo Colaiacovo, the guy has great talent, moves the puck, takes the body well. If healthy he could be the leafs best defenseman. That does not seem to be happening though. He suffered a torn groin muscle during the first period of Tuesday's game against the Islanders and is out 4-6 weeks. This guy has no luck at all. In the 5 years he has been in the league he has only played about 100 games total. He has suffered enough injuries for a 20 year career already. Hopefully he will finally get some luck on his side and be able to play a full season, but I don’t know he sure seems snake bitten.

On the game Tuesday night you have to give the leafs credit and special marks to Vessa Toskla. He and the rest of the team could have folded after the 174 foot shorthanded goal he let in Tuesday night. Instead he shook it off, laughed about it and played great the rest of the way in a 3-1 win. That’s the attitude a goalie needs to play in this league. Were you watching Mr. Raycroft. To bad that Vessa will be on every blooper real for years to come.
Anyway that’s it for another day
Sincerely Walter Webb
